About Us

Our Story

This started at home, in the middle of everyday life.

Like many parents, I was supporting a child through big emotions, the need for connection, confidence and predictability. I was focusing on ways to build independence in small, scaffolded, meaningful ways.

What I realised early on was this: confidence and independence doesn’t just happen. These skills are built through experience, repetition and opportunities to do things for themselves in a way that feels achievable.

So I started with something simple: food.

By breaking recipes down into clear visual steps, I saw children become more willing to participate, more confident to try new things and super proud of what they could do on their own.

From there, the idea grew.

What We Create

We create practical resources that help children build confidence, independence, and capability through everyday experiences.

Our current range includes:

• Visual step-by-step recipes that support children to cook with greater independence

• Reader-friendly recipe versions for confident readers, older children, and adults who prefer a traditional format

• Simple “Make & Play” sensory recipes that encourage children to create, explore, and learn through hands-on play

Every resource is designed to be simple, clear, and achievable for real families in real homes.

Our Why

We believe capability is built one small win at a time.

When a child follows a recipe, pours an ingredient, stirs a mixture, or completes a step independently, they’re doing more than cooking.

They’re building confidence.

They’re developing life skills.

They’re learning that they are capable.

These everyday moments may seem small, but they create the foundation for lifelong independence.

From Our Home to Yours

Capable Kids Project was created through lived experience, plenty of trial and error, and a simple goal:

To help children feel confident, capable, and included in everyday life.

No pressure for perfection. Just practical resources that make participation easier and help children experience the satisfaction of doing things for themselves.

If you’re here, you’re probably working towards the same thing.

We’re so glad you found us.
